The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) maintains a centralized Lost and Found facility in New York City to help passengers recover their lost belongings from subway trains, stations, and platforms.

How It Works
All items found in NYC Subway trains, on platforms, or in stations are sent to the nearest station's Lost and Found office.
Items are then transferred to the Central Lost and Found office at 34 St–Penn Station. Items found on trains may take 24–48 hours to appear in the system.
You can claim your item by filing an official report through the MTA website and providing a valid ID proof and description of the lost item.
Items are stored for up to 3 months before being disposed of as per MTA policy.
Important Information
Report your lost item as soon as possible by calling the helpline (511) or visiting the official MTA website.
Provide specific details about the lost item, including subway line, direction, origin and destination stations, time of travel, and exact description.
You will need to show identification when claiming your property.
There is no fee for claiming your lost items, but you may be asked to sign a receipt.
For valuable items like wallets, laptops, or important documents, it's recommended to report to the MTA helpline (511) immediately and file an official claim at new.mta.info/contact-us/lost-and-found.
